De la insurgencia a la legalidad. La experiencia de la guerrilla guatemalteca

Abstract

The longest and bloodiest civil war in Central America was not fought in Guatemala, and with the exception of the Colombian case, it is the longest war confrontation in the hemisphere. Between 1960 and 1996, in the mountains, the jungle and the city, a score of guerrilla groups agglutinated mainly in three organizations, carried out operations of sabotage, attack and harassment against Guatemalan police and military bodies. Throughout the war, Guatemala consolidated itself as a counterinsurgency state. He had all the resources and power to avoid a popular or revolutionary victory, but he could not address the origin of the uprising, definitively defeat the insurgency or control the social forces caused by the permanent crisis.

No en Guatemala se libró la guerra civil más larga y sangrienta de Centroamérica y a excepción del caso colombiano, es la confrontación bélica más prolongada del hemisferio. Entre 1960 y 1996, en la montaña, la selva y la ciudad, una veintena de grupos guerrilleros aglutinados principalmente en tres organizaciones, realizaron operaciones de sabotaje, ataque y hostigamiento hacia cuerpos policiacos y militares guatemaltecos. A lo largo de la guerra, Guatemala se consolidó como estado contrainsurgente. Contó con todos los recursos y el poder para evitar una victoria popular o revolucionaria, pero no pudo abordar el origen de la sublevación, derrotar definitivamente a la insurgencia ni controlar las fuerzas sociales provocadas por la crisis permanente.
