Competitividad regional de la industria textil y de la confección en la región Bajío-Sur (Michoacán-Guanajuato)

Abstract

The present investigation aims to determine the main factors that most influence in the low competitiveness of the textile industry in the Bajío region-south between the states of Michoacán and Guanajuato, which is composed of 8 municipalities, which have significant textile industry and its economy that have affected their participation in the local, regional and national levels, due to introduction of chinese textile products to the country; analysis approaching the theoretical concepts of regional development, local endogenous development and competitiveness. It investigated the most significant independent variables that influence the competitiveness, which were considered and analyzed several studies and national and international indices that measure this variable in order to develop a model for the measurement of competitiveness at the regional level, starting the identification of the production profile, defined as the local productive system or cluster. It surveyed 54 companies in the textile industry, as well as 392 citizens during 2007, also analyzed statistical information from official sources, to create indices that included the explanatory variables of regional competitiveness. This information was processed in different computer programs, applying statistical techniques such as frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, linear regression and hypothesis testing to identify the main variables that influence the low competitiveness of the textile industry.

La presente investigación tiene como objetivo, determinar los principales factores que en mayor medida influyen en la baja competitividad regional de la industria textil en la región Bajío-Sur, comprendida entre los estados de Michoacán y Guanajuato, la cual está integrada por 8 municipios, que presentan actividad textil significativa en su economía y que han visto afectada su participación en el mercado local, regional y nacional, debido a la introducción de productos textiles chinos al país; abordando el análisis teórico de los conceptos del desarrollo regional, desarrollo local endógeno y de la competitividad. Se investigaron las variables independientes más significativas que influyen en la competitividad, por lo que fueron considerados y analizados los diferentes estudios e índices nacionales e internacionales que miden esta variable, a fin de desarrollar un modelo para la medición de la competitividad a nivel regional, partiendo de la identificación de la vocación productiva, definida como el sistema productivo local o clúster. Se encuestaron 54 empresas dedicadas a la actividad textil, así como a 392 ciudadanos, durante el año 2007; asimismo, se analizó información estadística proveniente de fuentes oficiales, para conformar los índices que integraron las variables explicativas de la competitividad regional. Dicha información fue procesada en diferentes programas informáticos, aplicando técnicas estadísticas como análisis de frecuencias, estadística descriptiva, análisis correlacional, regresión lineal y prueba de hipótesis, a fin de identificar las principales variables que influyen en la baja competitividad regional de la industria textil.
