Mimesis as Mask and mirror: subjetividad y mimesis

Abstract

It is necessary to say something regarding the title, Mimesis ace mask and mirror. The reader will ask, and with reason, the reason of a title in English when the equivalent one in Castilian is perfectly transparent: "mimesis like mask and mirror." Mimesis since the central notion is the imitation; mask because the mask mentions to the actor, to the Hippocrates, to the notion already Hellenic of the individual's life like a setting in scene: when Octavio dies Augusto, his last words take this stamp. Comedy est finite... 4 Mirror points to the reflection, to my image but that it is not what I am me, to that image that is at the same time the same thing and the other thing. And if I look at myself in the eyes of my image, I sense, I know, I understand my eye, but my eye is not capable of it turns to itself: therefore, I need of it another to recognize me.

Hay que decir algo respecto al título, Mimesis as mask and mirror. El lector preguntará, y con razón, el motivo de un título en inglés cuando el equivalente en castellano es perfectamente diáfano: “mimesis como máscara y espejo”. Sin embargo..., en esta tesis el resultado final se encuentra en el teatro de Shakespeare, uno de cuyos recursos retóricos es el artificio de la poesía anglosajona de la aliteración: safe and sound, so foul and fair a day i have not seen, 1 a little more than kin, and less than kind!, 2 love’s labour’s lost, bloody, bawdy villain 3. Me pareció, pues, que la redundancia vocal da fuerza y contundencia en los planos del sintagma y del paradigma. Mimesis ya que la noción central es la imitación; mask porque la máscara alude al actor, al Hipócrates, a la noción ya helénica de la vida del individuo como una puesta en escena: cuando muere Octavio Augusto, sus últimas palabras llevan este sello. Comedia est finita... 4 Mirror apunta a la reflexión, a esa imagen mía pero que no es lo que soy yo, a esa imagen que es a un tiempo lo mismo y lo otro. Y si me miro en los ojos de mi imagen, intuyo, sé, comprendo mi ojo, pero mi ojo no es capaz de verse a sí mismo: así pues, necesito de lo otro para reconocerme.
